If you're able to stabilize the footage to the face, wouldn't it work to pre compose the stabilized shot, do your distortion on the precomp, and then apply the reverse of the stabilize to the distorted footage in another precomp to bring back the camera motion?

Have a shot of a face that I need to subtly add movement to such as a smirk. Most of the methods I have tried so far(puppet, liquify), can't handle that the pixels getting distorted are also moving around in the shot. I need a way to distort that can take into account my tracking data and distort in a relative position from there. I'm on a tight turnaround so I can't afford to R&D 10 different methods at this point. If anyone has completed a task like this before I'd love to hear what tools inside AE you used.
