To avoid that I always renders out my audio to lossless wav/aiff using AUdition (or tools alike) before importing them into AE.
I stoped using mp3s or m4a files because of distortion.

strange! any audio that I bring into and render from AE seems to suffer one way or another. That is, it tends to play and render out a little distorted and even the slight hiss becomes almost unbearable - even when I add noise reduction. If I take the same audio source file and play it back on he exact same system(set-up) it plays back just fine. Any one seen this ? Any remedies?
