I work at a news station.  Right now everything is DV25.  We are going 1080i in a couple of weeks.  We have two sets of playback servers.  One will only playback DVCProHD  which will be used for looping backgrounds and other daily news elements. The other server will be XDCamHD 422.  Not my choice.  The only software I've seen so far is Sony Vegas and Flip Factory.  They won't buy Flip Factory.  The graphics depart is on PC's, but we have 5 FCP7 systems down the hall I'd rather avoid because they are usually busy.

Just an FYI, XDCamHD 422 at 50mbit may be an "okay" acquisition codec but it's a pretty crappy exporting/rendering/mastering format. Plus, it's long GOP, therefore very slow to work with. You can force all I-frames but in doing so take a quality hit.

If you really REALLY must deliver a clip in that codec/data rate from AE I recommend you render to something like Prores 422 and then convert with the encoding tool of your choice.

We are finally upgrading to HD here and will be going from DV on the file servers to XDCamHD 422 50mbit.  How can I render out of After Effects CS4 on a PC?

Thanks,
