The individual pasting seems to be the best way. Although ideally i'd like a way to paste paths/shapes such that they maintain their relative relationship to eachother, as well as centering their anchor point. A good example would be a bunch of interlocking mechanical gears. I want to bring them in such they all line up perfectly, but also want the anchor point at the exact center.
