i agree with the sad state of apple and their pro lines... with steve gone now i don't know if it will change or rapidly get worse and more consumer focused.. (still kinda hard to believe he's gone)
the biggest pain with windows boxes are the whole virus thing... mac users are relatively inexperienced in the upkeep and virus protection stuff so that will be a huge change for them moving to a pc box - especially one connected to the internet and you may use for surfing/reference research all at the same time as working.
i had a windows laptop get totally destroyed by some russian virus - all by using google to search for pictures and downloading images for reference (and no they were not pron or anything bad - was real work research) i had to boot from a DVD and format the thing to get rid of it. was incredibly tough even getting some of the non-backed up data off it.
i'm tempted now to go with a linux laptop install just to try to avoid the virus stuff - but for now it's still mac laptops etc for work and research

The rumor mill has been pointing to Apple exiting the Pro market sooner or later. I wouldn't be surprised to see another revision to the Mac Pro line but I've already decided on going with a Windows box for my next machine. The factors that led me to that conclusion include:
-OS X Lion
-Final Cut Pro X
-Woefully infrequent hardware revisions (see Macrumors buyers guide) and relative lack of options
-Price
That said, Apple is an easy out of box experience. I'm no longer willing to pay that premium though. Build 2x 12 core Windows machines for the price of 1x Mac Pro!
