Just sold a M= ac Pro I'd bought last May. They still have considerable residual value then= , but past three years old, not so much. Doing AE, etc., you can't do what y= ou can do with cars, drive them until the doors fall off. We're tending to work on big-screen i7 iMacs, and have a few high proc count= Xeons around for rendering, and one loaded Mac Pro in the screening room fo= r PR 3D playback. I'm skeptical whether there's much value in working on a machine with more t= han 4 procs at the moment. Rendering, yes, working, no. The long-standing problem with iMacs seems to be that because their margins a= re so thin, contract manufacturers are always trying to sneak lower-spec com= ponents past Apple, capacitors in particular, with Apple loath to admit any s= ystemic issue. Net result being tons of user chatter on problems with no corresponding serv= ice bulletin, and the annoying "never seen this before" lie that with car ma= kers signals an impending recall. Get AppleCare for sure.
