I make a folder where I put all the Comps I want to keep. Often, I'll pre-render and use the pre-renders, but I want to hang onto the Comp I used for the Pre-Render. So at the top of my project window, I have a folder for "keepers." Inside that are my master Comps folder, and my pre-comps folder. Then, when I reduce, I select the top level folder, and proceed. I put some spaces at the beginning of my "keeper folder," so it'll always go to the top of the Project Panel when I set it to sort in ascending order.
