Just read this post and wanted to add one thing that isn't that well documented.
Since CS5, you can paste mocha masks, directly into the AE mask channel. Once the mocha shape export is on the clipboard, select your AE layer. Under the edit menu you will find "paste mocha mask".
Leaving AE and mocha AE open at the same time and quickly tracking faces with mocha, then pasting the masks back to AE is a very efficient workflow.

Phil's method is how I did it awhile back. I have also used this method when I wanted to grade a face or something like that and it was faster to do it in AE than take it over to Resolve (which has an awesome tracker). Often the point tracker in AE is good enough for this task but if not I'd jump into Mocha.
