It is certainly the case for us that all our current plugins work in both AE CS5 and AE CS5.5 without having to purchase another license for the same machine.

You can either copy the plugins as Todd describes in his blog, or download the installers from our webstore that we released after AE CS5.5 was released… our installers will put the plugins into the proper place for both CS5 and CS5.5 (and, of course, for the previous versions of AE we also still support).

The only difference plug-in wise in almost all cases with 5 and 5.5 is
some have an installer issue due to different app paths but most have been
updated. If not, easy to manually get the working.
