You seem to be confusing two separate ways of working. Either choose AE =
or PP as the master.

If you want stuff to show up as layers in AE you will have to send it =
from PP.
In PP:
select all ctrl-a/cmd-a
file>adobe dynamic link>replace with after effects composition

Single layer project is to import the sequence from in AE

import the PP project in AE using file> adobe dynamic link>import  pp =
sequence
