All valid points, but I think we need to look at the Bigger Picture here. We
cannot continue down the path of buying new machines every year or two for
such updates.
I think this is a fact of life when you live in a first world country. The cost of refurbishing an existing a computer is more expensive than simply buying an new one when you factor in the cost of labor. That and the fact that the PC computer industry is based on the model of built-in obsolescence. But i think in a few years you'll be working from a dumb terminal and all of the processing will be happening in the cloud... In that case this will cease to be an issue.
