If it's to fill a seat then I would probably suggest keeping on with Maya since that seems to get the lion's share of requests. If it's more of a turnkey type of solution I would look more towards a package that you can easily get the whole thing done in. Two apps to add to the pile of contestants would be Lightwave 3D (now v.11) and Modo which just released version 601.
