You can always use the Gaussian Blur Per Pixel plugin of our SmoothKit plugin (it's "per pixel" because you get to vary the blur kernel at each pixel by supplying a greyscale matte, just like with AE's Compound Blur).

Not only that, but you get a true Gaussian Blur at each pixel instead of a Box Blur, which if you have lots of high-contrast edges can produce results that are not pleasing.

Also part of the SmoothKit: A sharpen filter that reduces ringing when sharpening, a z-depth focus blur, a time-averaging blur, and a  median filter that can produce much more pleasing results that a traditional larger-radius median filter (look at the "median" example here: http://revisionfx.com/products/smoothkit/gallery/ ) because by doing many passes with a smaller kernel, we can try to maintain edges in the original.  Also included is a directional blur that allows you to supply a different direction at each pixel, and a filter that uses the directions of splines to produce the directional blur.
