Thanks for all the suggestions folks. Will look into a third party solution for my toolbox.

As for Grow Bounds, tried it as first option. Didn't work for whatever reason, as did Red Giants Grow Bounds

Resorted to Lens Blur which is a nicer blur certainly, but it is a real render hit for the simple result I need. Added significant render time to my 16bit 60sec 1080p24 project on a 8 core MacPro in CS3. I do need more RAM but I would guess an effect would tax the proc more than the memory, right?
