Doh - of course. The Repeat Edge Pixels option basically controls whether or not the alpha is blurred as well. Even though Grow Bounds changes the layer's size, it doesn't change the alpha.

The Camera Lens Blur in AE CS5.5 is much faster (and a bit nicer) than the older Lens Blur, FWIW…
