So you can also start with an .mp4 f= ile and just change .mp4 to .m4v by hand. (i.e., render an MP4 from AE then= change the dot3 to .m4v.) Or start with a .mov and convert to .mp4 using Quicktime: File Menu: Export= : Movie to MPEG-4 (Options: both video and audio set to pass through; don't= enable streaming.) Other info from Apple's website: Video formats supported: H.264 video up to= 1080p, 30 frames per second, High Profile level 4.1 with AAC-LC audio up t= o 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; MPEG-= 4 video up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Pro= file with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps per channel, 48kHz, stereo audio in .= m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; Motion JPEG (M-JPEG) up to 35 Mbps, 1280 = by 720 pixels, 30 frames per second, audio in ulaw, PCM stereo audio in .av= i file format And to answer Teddy, H.264 is a part of the MPEG4 spec. And H.264 is in my = experience the preferred codec for iDevices new and old.
