> I know from reading your posts you're a PC guy but I've been on a Mac for a long time and I'd be reluctant to be forced to go to another platform
I’m actually pretty agnostic – I build my own machines and have a Hackintosh and Linux box as well. I started out on Apple IIs, used many Macs over the years. These days my non-profit IMAX is all about the cheapest performance per dollar, so Windows boxes make sense. Hackintosh is little to finicky for a primary machine with an over-clocked Windows machine, if you don’t mind tinkering (I enjoy it) gives you the best AE performance per dollar by a long shot. But if I were buying off-the-shelf systems, Mac Pros used to be great boxes – but they are way out of date right now.
Plus I prefer to do NLE in Sony Vegas primarily for the audio tools but also just like it’s overall workflow and it’s Windows only.
But I would be disappointed to see Mac Pros fall by the wayside. Personally, as I mentioned offlist to someone, I would love to see Apple spin off the ProApps and Mac Pro lines like a Lexus or Infinity brand to do their own thing. But I think that’s unlikely.
Choice and competition is always good for everyone – but it may be Apple thinks their “post-PC” world is where it’s at.
