I think the timing has more to do with Intel's release cycle and the availability of their chips.  I assume the next MacPro will use the 'Ivy Bridge' processor, it's not due out until June.  I know the mobile version of Ivy Bridge has been delayed / pushed back further, not sure about the desktop versions.  I can't imagine Apple announcing a new product that is at least 3 months away, if not more, they've never done that before.
