Fair enough. I went about it the wrong way. It was meant to be a suggestion that turned into a rehash of the usual discussion. I just think any graphics pro buying a new mac before knowing how apple is going to deal with the mac pro refresh is in danger of wasting money. just my two c

no - but Rob uses a mac and instead of answering anything remotely close to the question he asked you gave an irrelevant suggestion that apparently you want to be the answer.

rob has a lot of time and money invested in the mac - he's smart enough to have asked if he should switch to PC if that was what he was inclined to do.

the whole mac vs pc thing is so tired to anybody who has been around for more then a couple years...

While I understand the issue with switching (despite very few plugins being only available for Mac) you aren't seriously suggesting professionals only use Macs? Top end post houses focused on 3D are almost exclusively PC. The Mac pro line is seriously stale right now...

Buy a pc. 200% cheaper. Choose your own graphics card etc. And faster, if you spring for sandy bridge i7s. :)

I am also interested in this question. My MacPro 2.1, while a workhorse, is showing its age and is ready to slide down to the #2 spot in my workflow. But with no new pro offerings from Apple, I'm wondering if a top end 27" iMac will fill the bill. My biggest concerns are with heavy duty AE rendering and to a lesser extent no CUDA capability.

I hope to have a better idea of where things are headed after next week.
