for a basic box, yes. not with a 27" 2550X1440 display.you'll be in the range of $2K with that.... about the same price as the iMac.

I have a iMac 27" i7 Q4 2.93 16gb and its on average about 5% faster than a tower 3.1 8 core 2.8.  its 8 cores with HT on.  yes its stuck with the ATI GPU, but its ok. AE works fine, PP runs ok, but not nearly as nice as the 8 core with dual GPU's. its serviceable. Resolve runs ok on it, at least for 720p.

AE"s MP can peg all the CPU's X8 to 90-100% on CPU intense frames. I had it doing 8hrs renders when I got it for a project. its paid for in one project, thats all I care about right now.

hate the glossy screen, but otherwise the screen is one of the best one's I've had, especially for all the pixels.
