If you are willing to go the Hackintosh route, you can build a killer rig that outperforms A Mac Pro, is "relatively" stable, and continue to use all of the software you know and love. There are even companies out there who will help you build them, if you know who to ask... of course, selling "clones" is still officially frowned upon by Apple. But it is a viable alternative, for the technically-minded.
I don't have one myself but I have seen examples in action, and they perform impressively.
