Also curious: does the new 3d engine handle actual 3d imports from maya = like nuke, or is it only for vector objects like text and shapes?

I would like to add my voice on the new caching system, which is not only s= uper hot, it's for me the #1 feature of this release (yes yes, above Ma= sk feathering ;) ).

It never felt so good to work in AE. Opening you= r AE project in the morning and having it instantly load all your cached fr= ames, previous ram previews is just amazing. It's somehow a coffee brea= k killer. A lot of intelligent background caching also makes it work like a= charm, and fast.

Sure a lot of new features extend the scope of AE in CS6, such as Mask = feathering, powerfull 3D camera tracker, the first steps into raytracing an= d real 3D world, but whereas these features will help you do more work insi= de AE, the new caching will allow everyone to work faster and more effectiv= ely.

And the gap in productivity is bigger with Hash Cache than when we swit= ched to 64bit.

That is to say I'm definitively upgrading when it= get released.

Cheers,

Well we can talk about CS6, apparently. I just received a notification. AE = CS 6 has many exciting new features, most notably a 3D camera tracker which= allows for the tracking of footage, creating cameras that correspond to th= e footage and the subsequent placement of text and other elements in 3D spa= ce.

Another great feature is native 3D in AE which includes extruding and bevel= ling AE text, creating environment maps and importing vector objects such a= s illustrator files and converting them to extruded objects right inside an= AE comp.

While there are other 3D plug in solutions for 3D objecta, AE CS6 allows fo= r these native 3D elements to truly be integrated with AE lights, cameras, = layers, etc, unlike plug ins.

A nifty hash cash disk cashes layers making AE more of a real time machine,= quickly recalling data for layers, even restoring a previous ram preview i= nstance by undoing back to a previously ram preview situation.

I've been running CS 6 in heavy production and it is very stable and I&= #39;m excited to let other AE users know that it's coming soon.
