A grand?
How much work was it?
Is 2 days average rate here in the netherlands as a freelancer (with 3+ years experience), how much work was it?

Local US attorney won't matter, waste of money if you go that way. No EU/GE experience is wasting cash.

Just ask what they want they want to do with it and talk to them.
Ask how it gets used, how they found you, ask the phone number of the director that is doing the commercial.
Ask for creds for any award.

Must be some german listers that can help.

What is US law on getting paid in stuff tax wise.
Flight to germany etc for free, coordinate etc.

so many options,

I would say proceed with caution with the standard caveats. Make sure whatever they send for payment is legitimate and keep track of what you get paid at least for IRS fun stuff. Always Cover Your Ass ;).

Hey everyone.

Quick question about selling rights to an animation I produced.

The animation in question is here:
http://vimeo.com/7049421

I created the animation to submit to the Greyscale Gorilla 5 second projects contest. It was just a fun little thing I made and I won the contest.  I own the rights to everything in the video except for the music select.

I was just approached by a German production company creating a commercial for VODAFONE.  They are requesting to license the rights to use the 5 seconds of footage for 1 year for all media in Germany.  They've offered 1000€ for the rights.

I received this message through Vimeo's message system, not directly.

I was wondering if anyone on the list has ever had the experience of doing this and if there's anything I should be cautious about.

I'm flattered that this video I've created is being considered for use like this. Especially since it was just a little fun project to make on a whim.   And $1,300 USD out of nowhere, for something I never expected to get paid for, definitely sounds great to me.

Let me know your thoughts.

Thanks!
