Just had a partner company report a problem that I’ve been able to reproduce. He has an AE comp for his studio logo, renders out at 29.97p 1080 QuickTime Animation, field render set to off. QuickTime and all other apps treat it as progressive and play it back correctly. However, FCP7 does not – if you let it set the sequence settings to match it, it choose upper field. However, the file plays fine and looks/renders nice. If you force it to “correct” progressive setting, it now looks like wrong field dominance and renders incorrectly.

I replicated this on my Hackintosh here. Any thoughts? I googled this but found nothing but maybe I using the wrong words as this does not seem that exotic.

A film is – or should be – more like music than like fiction. It should be a progression of moods and feelings. The theme, what’s behind the emotion, the meaning, all that comes later.
