In the end I jumped in at the deep end and built it in a 3d app. My first test was however just rotate a flat plane pre comp filled with = the pages artwork and using a null on the edge of the plane, apply = freeform or a warp to create the turn/page bending. In the pages precomp you can sequence the pages to match the speed of = the turns, dupe the one page to get the back of the page and do similar. Now precomp this one page turn and stack as many as you want. The = sequences/artwork comp should fill the pages up. Use the Pan Behind tool to move the anchor = point to one edge of your page. Rotate on the Y axis to almost 90 = degrees. Do the same with the next page but start from just shy of -90 = degrees. (or maybe it's the other way around: rotate to -90, start from = just before 90) Anyway, cut between the two. This works if, as you say, = the page doesn't need to bend, I would think.
