All,

Ok, so you've got your Disk Cache (configurable in Preferences-> Media & Disk Cache). In that preference, I can choose the maximum size of the cache files and the location, and whether to enable it or not. Ae will then cache 'expensive' frames, but these frames are not persistent: when I quit AE, the cache is cleared out.

Then there is the conformed media cache. Prefs for conformed media cache are on the same page as the Disk cache. Purpose of this cache is to create PEK files (audio peak waveform, when viewing levels in an Ae layer) and CFA files (conformed media files... these can be large). Purpose: enable real-time editing of audio and MPG files (?), across multiple apps (Ae, PPro, AME etc.). These are shared resources, and are persistent (ie. once they're created, they don't get removed by Ae).

The preferences for conformed media cache are: Where they go, and an option to clean the cache.

The trouble I'm having is that there don't seem to be any options to limit the size of the conformed cache files: they just keep on piling up until the drive fills up. This is a problem for me as I'm running Ae on multiple remote machines, and the cache drive is quite small. It doesn't take long for the drive to fill up and I then get errors.

So, two questions:

1) Can I define a size for the confirmed media cache file somewhere? (I think the answer to this is "no")
2) Everything leads me to believe that manually deleting all files in conformed media cache folder isn't a problem. When Ae opens a file that needs to have media conformed, it will simply do it if it doesn't exist. Just want to make absolutely sure that removing conformed media won't mess anything up (I'm in a highly automated environment).
