Maybe this helps: click on any crosshair symbol next to position values 
in the Effect Controls Window. Then, without moving the cursor to the 
Comp Window, adjust values by pressing the arrow keys (along with the 
usual modifier keys CTRL and SHIFT if need be). To conform, hit Enter.
