Interesting to hear you think the audio problem was related to 10.7.4. I thought it was a conflict between AE CS6 and SoundSource (what I use for quick switching of my audio I/O), but the OS might be it. 

Actually, now that I look at some dates, I was having audio issues before 10.7.4 was released. I'm trying running without SoundSource now; seeing if that cures it.
