Does purging get you back to a longer RAM preview?

I have the max of 4GB in my MBP.  I just installed the Ae update, did a RAM-Preview, and Ae is letting 1.3 GB of RAM go unused.  I'm now getting less than 2 seconds of RAM-Preview on a 1080 30p Comp.  And each subsequent RAM-preview is giving me even less.  And I'm getting that bogus "Ae needs more than 2 frames to RAM-Preview" message again.

I have the Production Suite installed, but I skipped installing Flash, which I rarely use, onto the laptop.

I have no Adobe beta software installed, but I have CS4 & CS5.5 PP installed.

Situation is somewhat better on my MacPro3,1, but not ideal.  Ae is using all but 3.2 GB of my 32G of RAM.  CS5.5 would use all of it.
