FWIW, a very useful but little-known keyboard shortcut is alt+double-click on the hand icon, to centre the composition window (you need to select the composition window first). This is really useful when you want to compare different timelines, because it allows you to put all the composition windows in the same position on the screen, so they don't move around as you switch between different timelines. I was kinda hoping there was an equivalent for the timeline window...
