I know the article is old, but it SHOULD still relate. You should be able to setup a gmail account specifically for the list, and then have it forward as pop3 to your email program of choice, thus removing your ISP from the issue. As long as Gmail knows its not spam, it'll forward it as POP3 to your email client of choice.
