Thanks, Robert and Jim.  Embarrassing, but I had a hidden adjustment layer with a test of the texturize effect.  Silly mistake.

Both of you were right - I had the transformations collapsed AND the matte parented to the wheel layer.

Thanks, guys!

Hello Russ,

Not an AE expert but I would try collapse transformations on the texture layer.

Subject: [AE] making texture layer rotate

Hey AE list,

This may be a simple thing, but I'm creating a wheel like you would see at a county fair that spins and then stops.  I created the wheel in Illustrator, parented all of the text and graphics that needed to be on it, on it, then added a texture layer as an alpha matte to the Illustrator layer to make it look wooden.

Then I pre-composed everything and I'm spinning the precomp to make it look like um..it's spinning like a wheel.

The problem I'm having is that I can't get the texture layer to spin as well.  Do I have to pickwhip the rotation of the texture layer to the Illustrator layer rotation OUTSIDE of the pre-comp, or...um...I dunno.  This seems so easy, but I'm having trouble.

I can make it spin, but not in time with the illustrator layer.  :(
