But, I do believe in some cases it's true because detail is preserved and colors look good, but in others it's so bad it can't be intentional – shadows on a sunlit day that make the spot look like a noir film and colors that are on the edge of tearing. I saw some basketball promos the other day for maybe an ESPN (??) highlight show or something, and they suffered from this problem. But when they went back to the live program everything looked good. There's a lot to be said for engineers.
