...And doubling down on Thunderbolt. Which I'd be a lot more sanguine about if we'd spent the last couple of years drowning in a profusion of TB accessories. But the fact is, I've gone a product cycle on some machines without ever having something to attach. Please don't mention the Promise RAID that for months one couldn't get a cable for.
And without a cheap TB-FW adapter (I know Atto has an expensive one - where can I get them for under $75?), we're just orphaning yet another generation of storage technology, this time DV and HDV cameras and tapes. As it has been for a while, one needed a cable that doesn't exist - 4-pin to FW800. Yes, easy enough with adapters and hubs to bridge, but the point remains. Apple has NEVER given much thought to archive access.
Another question - whether FW attached via TB or USB3 would even be recognized by editing software as a valid capture source?
