I'd love to see Apple drop the Mac Pro line and license the OS to Boxx to build modern high-end Macs. Apple-blessed Hackintoshes. I think the buyers of those machines wouldn't hold it against Apple if there were more hiccups than with a real Apple machine, they'd just be happy being able to run FCP on the latest and greatest CPUs. And with just one vendor kept on a tight leash, Apple wouldn't have to worry about an infinite number of possible configurations.
Anyway, I won't be holding my breath.
