I really tried to hold back from commenting on this or the MacPro threads - I really did :)

I work a lot as a gun-for-hire. Often times I'm set-up at a desk where my 17" takes up too much space. I'm also a screen size and resolution  junkie, I don't like working on a 17" screen by itself - I'd much rather it be hooked up to an external monitor (and keyboard).

I tried once to use AE on 15” notebook – burnt 3 motherboards during warranty then sold it
- must not have been an Apple laptop. IMO you can't compare any PC laptop with an Apple laptop - they are built better. And this one appears to me to be their best yet.

I can count the times I've watched a blu-ray on my laptop on one hand; I have an external drive for that, and would prefer not to carry the drive around for the other 99.999% of the time.

I ride a motorcycle, so I'm often carrying helmet, gloves, Intous tablet, mouse, laptop, extra drive, etc.... The weight does add up (and no, I don't consider carrying this stuff a workout - it's a hassle).

So I get a faster, lighter, higher res laptop that I'll plug-in to an additional monitor and I'll have a machine that's nearly 3 times faster. I'm not saying it's the perfect machine for everybody, but you have to admit your 8 lb behemoth isn't either -

And since it's an Apple laptop, I'll sell it in 2 years, get a large amount of what I paid for it and put it into a new one. You can't say that about a PC laptop - try selling a used one...

I’ve never understood power users need for “small and light”. Laws of physics say it will be hotter, slower, more expensive than a larger, heavier model with a smaller screen. I tried once to use AE on 15” notebook – burnt 3 motherboards during warranty then sold it. Before and after that machine, always used 17” around 8lbs. Have a $600 HP Quad i7 Sandy Bridge with dual hard drives and a blu-ray player now. It’s fine carrying about. Apple could make a 6 or 7 lb 17” with a 1920 x 1200 screen for less than machine with 3 drive bays.

If you need a lightweight machine for web browsing and email, get a tablet. If you need to serious work, are really going to do it carrying it around in your hand? I mean the difference between 5lbs and 8lbs should only matter if you never go to the gym. What’s so wrong with carrying around a little weight? It’s probably the only exercise some of us get J

A film is – or should be – more like music than like fiction. It should be a progression of moods and feelings. The theme, what’s behind the emotion, the meaning, all that comes later.
