I forgot about that script, I have it already. I just tried it and it seems to do what I'm after. Thanks for pointing out what's right in front of my nose Mark!

I'm not sure if this will entirely answer your question, but would the RepositionAnchorPoint script help?

When I create a shape layer from text it puts the center point where the anchor point was on the text layer. If I select the path and move it around or center it, none of the transform values change. Is there a way to have the anchor point automatically set to the bounding box of the new shape layer? I have a lot of text to work with and am trying to avoid having to eyeball it. I demand numerical precision!! ;-)
