That list is a tiny bit of "all I can conceive of"...I was just asking for anything I might have missed. Since I'm coding a good portion
of that interface myself, I was mostly looking for feedback on what more
experienced craftsmen feel they need on a day-to-day basis instead of an everything-but-the-kitchen-sink approach.
Any competent Media Management system should do FAR more than that for you. It's just the part I don't want to code for myself if I don't have to, just like ImageMagik (or VLC) does almost all of the format conversion and the operating system itself does all of the permission control for me.
ResourceSpace (resourcespace.org) and a handful of other open-source media management systems do most of that for free ('open source' plus your server) anyway. For me, logging the metadata information of media already in my media library is really the most expensive, time-consuming part of using MAM. Really just looking to learn from other's experience if I
can....

VLC is open source and can do that.

so you want it to do everything you could conceive of, read every format in existence, but you're only willing to pay $200 for it? You sound like my clients.
