Subject: GTX570 in a MacPro…not working

There was a lot of talk on here about upgrading MacPros with the GTX570 card, so I thought I'd throw out my problem to the list…
With the GTX570 card in the MacPro and the card's power cables plugged in, the Mac won't start up. Not the doesn't show the startup screen issue, but it just goes click and shuts off without even getting to the startup chime. You have to pull the power cord to reset it. If the card is in at the same time as my 5770 and no power plugged into the 570 card, the computer starts and runs just fine. Makes me suspect that it's a power issue, no? Any idea how to diagnose and cure this power connection?

Early 2009 MacPro 8core
Card is a Gigabyte GTX5570 off Craigslist. This card uses 6pin and 8pin power and needs both plugged in. I only had the one cable from my HD5770, so I had to search all over to get another miniPCIe power cable. Not easy to find. I have one of these connected to a 6pin to 8pin adapter cable, the other is just the same old 6pin cable that was there on my 5770. How can I tell if the power cable is feeding the right wires to the right pins? Any dangers before I start pulling cables apart and rewiring them?
I got the nVidia drivers installed, so I don't think that's the issue as it's not even getting to a point where that would make a difference.
Any help appreciated, including wild guesses.
Thanks,
-Andrius.
