Do you mean the PCiE slot?  I was referring to power connector cords. Never seen anything related to the motherboard for video card power.

On my home PC's, all the motherboards have a socket for a graphics card. On my MacPro's (at least the 5,1) there are two sockets on the motherboard. For PC, I guess it depends on what MB you get, if you're doing a BYO system (which is what I think is the best thing about PC's – it makes it fun) : )

Just wondering, being a PC guy mainly. Does the motherboard have the power cables for the video card coming out of it? Or the power supply?  Couldn't the power supply be replaced for a higher end on with more connections? Or is that not really an option on Mac Pros?

I'm running two ATI Radeon HD 5770 on an eight core MacPro running 10.6.4 or 10.6.7, I forget which. These cards were single power cable setups. The motherboard has two total connector ports.

I'll confirm the Q4000 is a single 6pin power connector.

Yeah, I think mine has the stock 5870 and an nvidia quadro 4k and they both have a single plug into the back end of the card. I'd have to look on Monday to make certain, but I'm pretty sure there's only one socket on the radeon.

I'll have to check but it's a fairly recent MacPro, maybe less than a year? I'm trying to run the Radeon 5870(?) and a GTX 285. I think both have two power plugs.

Which MacPro do you have? I have a 5,1 with two cards in it and they both have plugs to the motherboard. Are you using a dual link card or something?

I keep searching on various sites and haven't seen the type of Y connector that it would need. I'm sure some of you have done this so I'm tapping the group think on this one.
