| We ran into that on Avengers with the HUDs. We found that if AI elements were continuously rasterized, WITH an effect (could be anything, like levels, fill, hue sat etc.) AND you were using it in 3d, collapsed transforms - the element would simply disappear when you turned the camera's DOF on. (I think in 8 bit it was fine - 32b disappeared)
You could only solve it by turning off the effect on the nested vector element. Which sucked. Or - I solved it on mine by just going the AI>150dpi PSD>AE route (which I think was faster than CR anyway, and allowed easy converting to live text.)
