Thanks Jayse. Simply switching from .eps to .ai format worked a charm in this case. Agreed, Cont. Rast. is slower than rasterizing to size in PS and working with that instead.

You could only solve it by turning off the effect on the nested vector element. Which sucked. 

Or - I solved it on mine by just going the AI>150dpi PSD>AE route (which I think was faster than CR anyway, and allowed easy converting to live text.) 

But kind of a buggy pain.
