Oh and I forgot to include the current owner's upgrade costs..
Currently own upgradeable Master Suite? - 4 years, possible 2 updates in that time.. Cost to current owners - ~ $1050
It's a no brainer if you already own the software as a perpetual license, just to keep it and upgrade the license.. otherwise you're spending more per year for software that you can't use if you stop spending.
The Creative Cloud format seems specifically created to entice non-perpetual-license-owners to jump on board and spend more.. They can basically get a new-comer to spend about 66.6% of the cost a perpetual license owner would spend at start-up.. over the course of 4 years.. the subscription model keeps them hooked, so they can't just "stop spending" because then they'd not have the software..
It's quite genius to open the door to a new customer base and in the same time, hook them for a long haul and still get them to spend 66% of the average perpetual license buyer in the long run..
The only thing that could throw this whole equation off, is if adobe starts doing .5 release updates that require payments to upgrade, and do so on a yearly basis.. if they do that, then perpetual owners who want to stay on up-to-date software, will end up paying around $2100 over the course of 4 years to keep their licenses current. which would be close to cloud subscription rate.
