FWIW, I've used the sample image expression on over 1900 layers in a single comp.

What surprised me is that it rendered pretty quickly - about 4 seconds a frame.

I am building a grid of layers with various controls on them. I'd like to drive some of the parameters with another layer's luminance and sampleImage. It's not practical to put that many sampleImage expressions on my effector layer since I have over 200 layers. Is there a way to put the sampleImage on the grid layer that references the luminance layer for the sampleImage point?
