You can absolutely render them in CS6 using the ray-tracer and they will be GPU "accelerated". The rendering of the CS5.5 comp in the ray-tracer will be slower. Casting rays is much slower. That said, the look will definitely be different and if you wanted to quickly add reflections; it might be a good way to go. I've seen many cases where a CS5.5 comp looks better by using the ray-tracer. It's highly dependent on the actual scene. e.g., the raytracer doesn't suffer from light leaks and objects intersect properly.
