Or just use ShapeShifter AE... it uses rasterized info (16 bpc preferably) AE text, imported eps etc, masks (with feather)  or shapes... just saying. 

Yes! To expand on this, with ShapeShifter AE, you have a lot more control over the look (such as an object's color) with Ae's native tools. With Element, you must learn its toolset.
