I didn't know I could export an OBJ from Invigorator. Nor had I heard of SketchUp. Good point about how lighting affects colors. I went ahead and bought the plug-in, but was dismayed to discover that it won't use Shape Layers as sources for extrusion. So, the new convert masks to shapes feature won't help me. Unless I'm doing something terribly wrong. After working with it on one project, I've decided that Invigorator is much better for my needs. This is because of the ability to import a layered Ai file (which is how most of my logos originate), simpler layer animation controls, the fact that layers don't have to be re-scaled and re-positioned manually after import, and because Invigorator casts shadows internally, whereas Element doesn't. It's probably going to be OK for text extrusions, wacky particle effects, and the occasional OBJ import scenarios. But, it's not the right tool for doing logo animations other than simple extrusions, spins, etc., IMO. I thought I'd pass that along in case anybody else was considering getting Element specifically for logos. Thanks to everybody who offered advice and suggestions! PLUS,
If you don't want any = more 3D in your life, but you do want Element's speed, Zaxwerks = Invigorator will export your OBJ logos from AE, and then Element can = read them in to AE.  I mean, you already own it. just learn = how.
The modeler in Invigorator is just = great.

that's not really that difficult, you can do multiple paths = into shape layer paths at once, you just need to create as many shape = layer paths as you have vector paths, and make sure the path properties = are twirled down when pasting back and forth.

isn't that part of our job? I mean if you use something = like C4D it will import the textures, exact colors too

So you refuse to learn about using 3D but you want a 3D animation? = Sketchup can export .obj files and it's free. Or why not just hire = someone else to do it? Element isn't going to automatically do all the = magic for you. You gotta put in SOME effort. :D

I'm looking at getting VCP Element for animating logos, but it appears = that may be tricky.

If I understand the method correctly, I'd have to copy all my Ai vectors = and paste to masks in Ae, one group at a time.

Then do my voodoo in Element.

Another tricky part seems to be matching official client colors. =  Other than writing down RGB values in Ai and entering manually in = Element, I don't see a way in the Element tutorials to assign proper = colors to Element layers (such as an eyedropper I can click on an = external Ai file.

I don't have, nor do I want a 3D app to make an obj file to export to = Element.

I have Invigorator Pro 6, but the Element demos make it look much = faster, once you get your layer groups into Element.  And that = looks like the hardest part.

Any thoughts?  I don't see a download trial for Element on the VCP = site.  Did I overlook the link?
