C’mon… read the web site:
http://aws.amazon.com/glacier/pricing/
I’m beginning to feel like an Amazon salesperson. It’s _archival_ storage. It is not Dropbox. It’s not designed for stuff you need to access often.
“Glacier is designed with the expectation that retrievals are infrequent and unusual, and data will be stored for extended periods of time. You can retrieve up to 5% of your average monthly storage (pro-rated daily) for free each month. If you choose to retrieve more than this amount of data in a month, you are charged a retrieval fee starting at $0.01 per gigabyte.”
So, yes, if you’re using it as normal cloud storage it’s possibly expensive at .12/gb for data retrieval. If you’re using it to store projects that are done and delivered and may never need to accessed again (or you need access to once in a blue moon) then it’s very reasonable. There’s no indication you’re charged for a ‘job’ beyond the data transfer fees.
Here’s the article that turned me on to it and explains what it is:

Cheers,
Jim
(not an Amazon salesperson. Just an Anarchist looking for a safe way to store all the semi-important data that’s on various hard drives that never gets looked at. Yeah, yeah… I’m a digital hoarder. ;-)

But you're paying for these "jobs" too just as you pay when you provide access to your AWS services to other people, right? If you do this often, this could become more costly than just the mere storage....
