I was thinking about using multiple s= hapes within a single shape layer, then using blend layers with difference,= intersection, etc between them somehow...

This is messy, but:

- create a precomp for each non-normal blend combination (so, B-over-A i= n which A is added, A-over-C in which A is overlayed, etc)
- create a precomp for each overlap scenario, with black and white to creat= e mattes
- in your master comp, using multiple instances of the calculations effect = and your mattes have each circle get knocked out wherever there is an overl= ap
- in your master comp, bring in the overlap precomps and only have them in = where the mattes dictate

I think this makes sense. Not at a computer at the moment, but let me kn= ow if this needs clarification.

This is where a node-based compositing package would really come in hand= y!

How would I go about creating a "conditional" blending layer? Wha= t I mean is it possible to have say five circles called A,B,C,D,E randomly = floating in space and overlapping, such that unless A is over B, A has &quo= t;normal" blending mode, but when A overlaps B, it has an "add&qu= ot; blending mode? And then when A overlaps C it has multiply blending mode= instead, just as an example? This is a puzzle...
