I much prefer the asus, I have used them for three builds and they are fantastically stable, reliable and easy to overclock. Highly recommend the asus p9 line over gigbyte

FWIW, last year, had got a 12Gb pack (3x4gb) and after a while added another of the same, with no problem at all. If the mobo has the small version listed in its RAM supported list it should support the big one too.

Keep in mind with high-performance Ram at those quantities, you'll want to manually set your timings or enable XMP in your bios.. it won't be "completely" plug - n- play.
